The Sirens were one of the first races to walk Olympus before it was destroyed. Apollo, Pathos, and Dionysus came together to create a race that would hold high a standard that united the three of them: an appreciation of beauty. The story of the Sirens has been told as a tragedy, but in truth is actually a story of rebirth and new beginnings. There are stories of a siren named Khaila who lead a small boat into dangerous waters by enchanting the sailor with her voice, and taking his life when his boat crashed in the rocky waters. Many people had known Khaila and disagreed that this is how the story happened, but there were few who remembered that long ago, and none that would argue against it. The Siren had been known to aggressively defend things that they felt were beautiful; people, art, music, nature, and they pushed violently away at things that were not.
Despite their good intentions, it seemed that the Sirens were too prejudiced to see the error of their ways, and stood their ground. The harder the people pushed to show the Sirens another path, the more the Sirens pushed back, until they even began forming prisons and encampments to punish people who tried to go against their beliefs. This only lead to rage and violence against them, with lots of Sirens losing their lives. For years, Sirens were persecuted, maybe rightfully so, until they were eventually forced to take to the seas and flea, finding a small island that they called their home for several decades. With the re-forging of the world and the creation of New Olympus, The Siren have returned and have been given the chance to avoid a destiny of persecution. Unfortunately, many of the Olympians have given up on this race, and have taught their preferred races to hate them for things the current generation of Siren are innocent of.
Advantages
The Siren are known for their wisdom and sharp tongues. They are travelers, especially by sea, and are rarely lost. You may take the ‘Living Compass’ skill for free. Additionally, your skill with words allows you to talk yourself out of many a difficult situation. You may take the ‘Higher Education’ skill for free.
Disadvantages
The Siren are not necessarily cowardly, but they will often prefer to avoid combat when they can, due to their frail nature and affinity for maintaining their outward appearance. Siren take a thirty second encumbrance and are unable to use essence for combat when healed from bleeding out during this time, and a sixty second encumbrance when healed from dead.
Roleplay suggestions:
The previous generation of Siren were haughty, arrogant and full of themselves, quick to judge anyone not considered 'beautiful' or 'artistic' by their own standards. In Greece, before the War of the Titans, Kobaloi were especially subject to this demeaning attitude. The new generations of Siren, born after the war, share some of these traits, but realize that they are no longer the the prized possessions of the gods, and have because much more discreet in their judgements, and have even changed their ways, becoming more accepting of other, less beautiful races. They do have a certain disdain for Gaian, but most other races they can tolerate. Siren, however, still tend to be instigators, viewing a good fight (as long as they are not involved) as a form of interactive theatre.
Makeup requirements:
Siren should have a consistent, oceanic theme to their dress. They are required to wear prosthetic ears that resemble oceanic life, plain elf ears are not allowed. You must also choose gills, or have solid colored feathers incorporated in your hair or on your upper body. Only a few feathers are required, just enough to be noticeable. They must also add blue, white and/or silver accents across the jawlines, cheek bones, bridge or the nose and/or forehead. Additional accents should be made along the arms and legs of exposed skin.
