Practices containing divine or religious content
The Pantheon LARP is set in a fictional version of Earth known as Alpha, where gods of Greek mythology (and other pantheons) interact with players of the game on a physical and metaphysical level. This can include attending religious ceremonies, services and other ways of engaging with the gods and goddesses of the pantheon of the player’s character’s (further known as the ‘PC’) choice.
None of these practices are intended to misrepresent, replace, cause the offense of, or stand as a direct comparison for any current or previous religious practice. The Pantheon is intended to be a celebration of our appreciation of Grecian culture and the stories told within it. While there are direct comparisons to the gods and goddesses of Greek mythological lore, they are not intended to be used in any context outside of the fictional world of Alpha. Any use of symbols, sigils, inscriptions, passages, text or terminology is used strictly for the sake of creative expression and not intended to be taken outside of the game world.
Policies on worship and its interpretations
The Pantheon LARP defines the word ‘worship’ as the way in which a PC demonstrates her or his dedication to the deity of their choice. More specifically, It is defined as the manner in which the PC conducts themselves, dresses, speaks about or acts upon the wishes of the chosen god or goddess. Worship will not be used to mock or cause offense to any practitioners of a faith that involves religious worship, nor will it be used to incite hate toward any religious group or faction that worships a deity in a similar fashion. Any mockery or offensive exaggeration of any religious ceremony done by a player in context will cause staff to move to more advanced procedures for the removal of a player from the game and the site immediately. Mockery of religious practices will not be tolerated in any capacity, and anyone considered to be violating these guidelines will be immediately suspended, and likely expelled permanently from the game depending on the intent and severity of the infraction.
Policies on rituals and ceremonies
Rituals and ceremonies concerning the subject matter of religion or spirituality will be restricted to the site, campus or home in which the game is being performed at, during the times of activity, and not at any other times. These rituals or ceremonies are done with respect to Grecian culture, and with research regarding the most appropriate cultural ways to show respect to a deity. However, Alpha is a fictional world developed to inspire creativity while showing appreciation for current cultural values and standards. Players will be allowed to interpret and create individual ways of showing this appreciation, as long as the intent is to raise awareness to the details of the deity they intend to celebrate, and there is no blatant misrepresentation or intentional offense on the part of the player. These rituals or ceremonies are entirely fictitious, and should not be considered an actual representation of Greek culture at any time.
Policies on all other religious content, including representation and depictions of gods, goddesses and deities
The gods, goddesses, deities, Olympians, Titans, Gorgons and other entities will always and only be used in context of the game, and will not be used outside of the game context by any staff or representative of the game for any reason other than to educate staff or players of the game on practices and content that may be deemed offensive or unnecessary, or to find cultural similarities. Any words or language related to religious content will be restricted to discussions or game mechanics. No unofficial representative or non-staff person will ever be allowed to represent or intend to depict any person or entity, fictitious or factual, deemed as a god, goddess or deity known in Greek mythology.
