Atlantis Proper is the name for the collective group of islands that reside north of Crete. While once the citystate of Atlantis was a beautiful, underwater world for only those that could breathe underwater, after the events of the Titan War, very little is known about Atlantis.
Secrets about the former city-state of Atlantis have been whispered since the first discovery of ancient texts by Kobaloi in the Ruins a few years after New Olympus was reformed. The texts were cryptic, missing pages, or just misleading journals of historians who were lead astray. Priests who have pushed Poseidon for answers have found themselves under the weight of Poseidon’s wrath, and quickly losing favor, or even their priesthood for asking too many questions. Many people liken this to the cold shift in demeanor that Apollo took at the state of Corinth. More befuddling, is that people who do have conclusive evidence as to the circumstances surrounding Atlantis have been subject to a sudden case of Amnesia, unresolved by magic or rituals of any kind. They can describe remembering that something being important, but have a sore distaste for going further than a few dozen feet beneath the surface of the ocean.
As the rest of the Olympians finished working the cultures of their own city-states, Poseidon spoke out, and declared that his new city-state would be call Atlantis Proper, the home of all Siren from New Olympus. Working with Athena, the islands just above Crete were given this distinction, as well as the waters directly below them.
Unlike most city-states, the islands of Atlantis Proper, while each having a name, mostly function together as a group. With the city-state being mostly made up of almost only Siren, life in Atlantis Proper is about traversing from island to island to complete whatever task it is that needs to be taken care of. Rarely, if ever, does a citizen of Atlantis Proper ever claim to be from a specific island.
Ultimately, the pace of life for Atlantis Proper is similar to Athens, with people usually finding themselves occupied, but with regularly scheduled times for leisure. Most take time to admire the natural architecture of the islands with long walks in small groups, enjoy some exotic meals, or spend time traveling through the beautiful coral reef that surrounds the inner perimeter of the islands.
